    MLB Baseball's New Steroid Policy

    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...e/bbo_steroids

    Some important points:

A first positive test would result in a suspension of up to 10 days, a second positive test a 30-day ban, a third positive a 60-day penalty, and a fourth positive test a one-year ban.

Saying it wanted to restore confidence in the game, baseball rolled out a tougher steroid-testing program Thursday that includes penalties for first-time offenders and random, year-round checks.
Seems they have gone more NFL style with their policy. I think it's also important that they instituted the random checks, as I believe in the old policy the players knew the date on which they were to be tested.

So are these rules good enough to pass muster?

    I am unimpressed.

Until there is a ban for life that comes early (2nd or 3rd offense at most) and until they are getting tested in the neighborhood of 10-50 times per year, it is weak.

Every pro sport should test every single athlete after every game, and a few times in the off season.

With the mega billions they are raking in for TV contracts and ticket prices, don't even try to tell me they cannot afford it.

They need to stamp it out entirely.

Also, any time someone is busted, all of their records need to be wiped from the books.

I'm just looking forward to seeing Barry Bonds comming back to baseball at his normal God given size... heh..165 lbs?

I heard on the local sports radio here in Cinti that they are going to test regularly as well as suprise testing. If so that will be interesting, the down part to the whole thing is that I expect to see a huge drop in the long ball this year. Yes its still the hardest thing to do in sports... Hit a round ball with a round bat, BUT if a professional athlete is juiced he has the added benefit of knocking the ball a bit farther than normal when he does hit it. Those just over the fence pop fly homers, will or should end up just being warning track outs.

When Barry shows up puny hitting 20 HRs he'll call it age.

I used to be an enormous Bonds fan. But he blatantly abused steroids and ALL of his records need to be wiped from the books.
