Patriots vs. Colts - Can Manning Get it Done?

In last year's AFC Championship, Manning threw four interceptions. There was a good discussion here on whether Manning choked or if he just wasn't Manningesque.

Recently, Manning said of his performance in last year's AFC championship that he played like "an absolute dog."

What do you think will happen this Sunday at 4:30pm in Foxboro?

The Pats don't have the secondary to cover one of the Colts' receivers, let alone all 3 and the tight ends. Manning's gonna get it done in Foxboro this year, which scares me cos we'll have to host him in Pittsburgh the week after (provided we win this week)
-> Liathano gets bet up by teh post.

I think the combination of Ty Law (who killed Manning in last year's playoffs) being out and the Colts offense just being out of control means the Colts win. I think they win pretty big.

This is my thinking as well. The Pats just do not seem to have the right tools in the secondary to stop the frighteningly prodigious passing attack of the Colts.

I don't want to take anything away from the Pats, their history of overcoming difficulties, or Belichick. They definitely have a very good shot to win. I am just learning towards the Colts on this one.

Steelers fans should definitely be worried. I think the Steelers match up even worse against the Colts since they don't really have the offense to reliably put up 30+ points.

The Steelers have been winning with good, fast linebackers, excellent receivers and a revitalized running game (The Bus looked damn good this season). Their only hope against the Colts would be to have their linebackers somehow shake up Manning enough to prevent him from getting his rhythm. If Manning hits his stride, game over.

With the new rules in the NFL this year, the Pats secondary won't be able to hold the Colts receivers like they did last year either. I have to go with the Colts on this one, but then again I also picked the Packers to go to the Superbowl.

Good point! I forgot how the Pats corners were MAULING Indy receivers last year. The new bumping rules definitely favor the Colts.

I think Bill Simmons addressed this overblown complaint quite well in his column "GO HOME AND GET YOUR BLEEPIN' SHINE-BOX!!"

Aside from ONE interference call that was missed on Indy's attempted tying drive, the Pats were playing well within the rules of the game. And let us not forget that had delay of game penalties been properly called, it likely would have a been a drive to get back from 14 pts down, not to tie.

The Colts lost last year because they were out-hit, out-hustled, out-manuevered, out-thought, and out-played. Period.

Now, last year having been put to rest, there's this year. My feelings about this matchup can be reduced to one word: YIPES!

If the Pats were healthy, I'd have no worries at all. Manning hasn't found a way to beat the Bellichick/Brady Pats, home or away. But with the Seymour injury, as well as the entire secondary being out of commision, I'm far less confident. On paper, I'd have to give the Colts the edge. But a lot of intangibles go the Pats way.

I'm betting this will be one of the most exciting games of the post-season. Exciting or nerve-wracking, depending upon your team loyalties.

Keep an eye on Bruschi, btw. I predict a big game from Teddy.
