Zone Alarm is excellent. I've used it on two completely different setups and been happy with it both times. It includes a traffic meter - the "ZA" toolbar icon changes to show when there's incoming/outgoing traffic - which is really handy.
Whatever firewall you pick, set it up and then look around at http://grc.com/ - use their Shields Up! tool to test your firewall's effectiveness.
