I hate this. I absolutely hate the way our media is going off the deep end with their left leaning media bias.
I don't just hate it because it is unfair to the other side, I hate it because it weakens the media's credibility on stands it takes that do not actually involve lies and misdirection.
The media plays an absolutely vital role in not just our political process, but in the maintenance of our society and civilization. It is supposed to be the ultimate watch dog, but with every passing year the credibility of the media erodes further and further.
Some of the more disgusting examples of this far left leaning bias include:
* The Dan Rather/60 Minutes story about G.W. Bush's national guard service that made us of forged documents. 60 Minutes' own document experts told them not to use them because they were probably forged. They did it anyway. When they were busted, they denied, denied, denied incessantly until the full weight of reality forced them to sputter out the most meager retraction possible. Dan Rather still clings to the veracity of the claims made in the documents, regardless of the fact that the documents themselves were forged. Disgusting.
* In the 2000 election, the networks held onto a story about G.W. Bush's DUI until the last weekend. They could have reported it 6-8+ months earlier, but they held on to it so they could drop the bomb a few days before the election. Despicable.
* Now in 2004, 60 Minutes was planning to do the same thing. They were planning to run a story this Sunday about the US military "losing" 380 tons of explosives.
Problem: this exact same story was reported already in 2003. The truth of the matter is that the IAEA had already reported the explosives missing when Saddam Hussein was still in power. The explosives were missing long before the US even invaded Iraq.
CBS knew this.
They planning to run the story as "news" anyway this Sunday, two days before the election, to alter the result.
This kind of practice is repulsive. The media should be reporting the facts and should leave their political beliefs and personal political wishes at home. If they are unable to do so, they should find a new job.
Hopefully, as more people continue to switch off the major networks and as the New York Times loses subscribers, some of these folks will be FORCED to find new jobs.
