Here's my proposed idea for a 16 team college football playoff:
The winners of these conferences ("Power Conferences") are in, and the next best 5 are in:
ACC
Big 12
Big 10
PAC 10
SEC
Winners of these conferences are in:
Big East
Conference USA
Mid American
Mountain West
Sun Belt
WAC
Total Teams: 16
Seeding:
1-5: Winners of the 5 Power Conferences.
6-11: Winners of the other conferences.
12-16: 5 Wild Cards from the Power Conferences.
Just to demonstrate how awesome this would be, look at the possible match ups this would create, if you assumed the season ended right now:
Look at those AWESOME games. From the first round alone:Code:1 Auburn \ Auburn \ 16 Texas / \ Auburn \ ----------------- / \ 7 West Virginia \ West Virginia / \ 10 Marshall / > Georgia ----------------- / 5 Wisconsin \ Georgia \ / 12 Georgia / \ Georgia / ----------------- / 3 Miami \ Miami / 14 California / 13 Tennesse \ Oklahoma \ 4 Oklahoma / \ Oklahoma \ ----------------- / \ 11 North Texas \ Boise State / \ 6 Boise State / > USC --------------------------------- / 9 Utah \ Louisville \ / 8 Louisville / \ USC / ----------------- / 15 Florida State \ USC / 2 USC /
Auburn v. Texas
Wisconsin v. Georgia
Miami v. California
Tennesse v. Oklahoma
Florida State v. USC
And to the short sighted BCS and Conference jerks who only care about money, do you really think you can make more money off your pathetic Gallery Furniture Bowl than off games like those 5?!?!
Then just think of the excitement generated by this. College Football would be the king of all sports.
After the first round, you could get games like this:
Georgia v. Miami
Louisville v. USC
Auburn v. Georgia
Oklahoma v. USC
Georgia v. USC
That is 10 absolutely amazing games, and most of the other games would be pretty darn sweet too.
They have to make this happen! ARGH!
