Uh-oh, you hit a nerve!
Bret Hart deserves to be on the list (he should have been higher in my opinion) because he not only helped to establish Canadians in pro wreslting, but made it KNOWN that he was Canadian. A majority of pro. wreslters are pressured to change where they're from in their ring announcement so that the American public will 'favor them'.
Bret's whole family helped the wrestling business in the early days when it was as much about the in-ring story as the overlaying storylines. He actually wrestled, not hit people with chairs, yelled "oh yeah!" or gave them the finger. He helped to establish the "sport" part of "Sports Entertainment". And yes, I realize that he wasn't the only one.

It's not the American's list of Great Canadians it's Great Canadians (and a few Brits and First Nations people who helped to beat down the US in the war of 1812) as chosen by Canadians. In addition to displaying pride for our country relentlessly, Bret had a massive stroke and wasn't expected to survive and has since recovered (for the most part) and has become an inspiration to many people who are far from wrestling fans. He's great because he established himself in a sport/entertainment field where Canadian's were generally looked down upon. He's great because he lived his dream and spent countless hours with the Make a Wish foundation, and countless other charities. He's great because he's inspired people and wasn't in it, purely, for the money.

People like Avril Lavigne and Shania Twain don't exude "Canadian". Shania lives in like Switzerland and Avril's screwing that ugly lead singer, Derrick, from Sum41. She's disowned!

And if you keep looking at that list you'll notice that there's more humanitiarians than celebrities. I'm sure that the American version would have Britney Spears near the top of the list, followed closely by George Bush and Justin Timberlake.
