I am talking about the insane over-commerical-endorsement-izing of everything related to sports.
Here is the latest absurdity:
The tangled web of sports and advertising
Spider Man logos on the actual freaking BASES?!?!?!?!?!As part of a marketing alliance between Major League Baseball Properties, Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, webbed logos of the upcoming film "Spider-Man 2" will appear on bases and on-deck circles in 15 stadiums of teams playing host to interleague games June 11-13.
Advertising on the silks of jockeys at the Kentucky Derby, and now this?
Well then what the hell is it?"This is not a step toward wallpapering the ballpark," says Bob DuPuy, Major League Baseball's president and chief operating officer.
That's exactly what it is dumbass.
Give me a fucking break. The major pro sports don't need any more promotion. Everyone who gives a damn already knows about them and knows how to watch them. This tired ass argument died about 20 years ago."The fans are already becoming used to corporate logos being a part of their sporting events," said Jeff Chown, managing director of The Marketing Arm, an entertainment and sports marketing consultancy firm. "The purists will say that something like this is not good for the game, but something like this also helps promote the game."
The only things that affect viewership are the level of cheeze and sleaze (which turns people away) and the random super star that people like so much they tune in. Everything else is just greed.
I'm seriously fed up with pro sports.
