"The Assyrian program of exterminating various ethnic groups generally failed to promote cultural diversity."
I was sitting here with my jaw dropped reading that until I got to the last line... "This story is fictional but not false." I couldn't imagine Jimmy Carter ever saying anything like that. Not all peace activists are against war in all situations, and from everything I have read/heard of Jimmy Carter he is NOT one of those who don't believe in war under any circumstances. What bothers me is anyone who reads that and doesn't get to the last line. Even still, by claiming it's not false tries to make it sound like Jimmy Carter is some whacko peacenik against war under any circumstances.
For an article about Jimmy Carter's real views on war (i.e. HE wrote this) go
here . It is obvious he would never be against the war outlined in Lord of the Rings. :P
I have a real problem with any web site with a url like truthout.org. Stuff like that just REEKS of revisionism and propaganda. I am loathe to give traffic to any such cess pool.
Any links from a web site that isn't designed to spread propaganda?
As for Carter, he actually HAS gone off the deep end lately.
He was one of the worst presidents in all US history but for a while was one of our best EX presidents. Unfortunately, he let the good PR go to his head and now he thinks he wants to be a politician again.
You would think his first abysmal failure at politics and the unbelieveably tremendous mistakes he made in that arena would give him a clue that he has no facility for the task.
When it comes to charitable service he is brilliant. When it comes to understanding geopolitics he is a buffoon.
For the good of everyone, I wish he would focus on what he is great at and eschew the domains of international relations and poltics at which he is atrocious.
Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my Uncle Jack off a horse." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse."

The link is to an article written BY Jimmy Carter, himself, which was originally published as a NYTimes OpEd. So at least there you have his own words on his view of the subject. I don't have a web subscription to the times so I can't get to the original article on there but here is the link if you don't want to visit the truthout site: NYTimes

Thanks. I just can't stand sites with those names. Usually, any website with a name like truthout.org would be more honest if they called themselves commies.org or wehateamerica.com.Originally posted by Talithia

Or on the other end of the political spectrum, web sites with names like (just making some up, though they might even be real) lifeissacred.org or libtertyforall.com might as well actually be holierthanthou.com or myvaluesarebest.com.
As you can tell, I'm not a big fan of extremists and propagandists of either persuasion.
