Quoting Ari: The big problems right now are the PAC-10, the Big-10, and their fucking pet bowl, the Rose Bowl (which they own apparently)
Heh... I thought Alabama owned the Rose Bowl as many of those as we've won!
I loved the rant!! I ROFLed like a maniac! What fucking sense does it make to have "traditional partner conferences"? Why the hell can't the SEC play in the Rose Bowl? Why can't Hawaii get abused in the first round of playoffs and prove they don't belong? Why can't Mizzou and Kansas have a chance to prove whether or not they belong? They both performed well in their bowls.
"Until they look at it through each party's respective self-interest, nobody understands how hard it is to come to an agreement." Truer words have never been said. BTW, has anyone else noticed that it's the SEC and ACC championing the plus-one concept?
It wouldn't have bothered me if Ohio State was in the Rose with USC instead with another opponent for LSU, personally. I stated from the beginning that OSU didn't deserve #1 ranking and thus didn't deserve the national title game. But then again, I DID enjoy watching them get pwnd. So as far as title games, it's SEC 3- THE Ohio State University 0. Hahahahaha.... pretentious choke artists.
Now, I've said before that I don't see the issue. A playoff would result in more games, more bowls, more money, a more satisfying championship result, happier fans, and happier players. Where's the damn negative? Less interest in the regular season????? Where is their head? Ari, will you EVER stop watching UGA football? What about you, Wyden? Will you EVER stop watching Rutgers? NCAA fans are the most rabid fans on the planet. I dare say even more so than European soccer fans (and that's saying something). If Alabama were playing Northern New Mexico State A&M Community College from Div IV-AAAAA or something, I'd STILL watch it (unless it's on PPV, which it would be)! Self-centered interest is the name of the game here, fellows.
I say that anyone who can finish in the top 5 deserves at least a shot at the title. The NFL shows just how successful a playoff system is in determining a champion. I remember 2 years ago, Seattle was a wild card team that went all the way to the Super Bowl (just to get robbed). George Mason showed the potential of a Cinderella story. So I say 8 or 16 teams would be more appropriate. But of course, when everyone else is stuck in their hard-headed money grubbing ways, how can we get a true champion?
It's never been about the fans or the players. At least, not since the BCS started. Frankly, I like hating Notre Dame for stealing our 1966 championship that I wasn't even alive to see. It's all about rabid fandom and tradition. Hatred of practically every team but your team and bragging and arguing over who the baddest fuckers on the field are is what sports is all about. But arguing that Georgia deserved at least some shot and that Auburn got excluded in 04 isn't what it's about at all. My supervisor is a rabid USC fan that I love talking shit to. "We can't allow you to get your 12th title and catch us!"
But there's one thing you can't complain about: the title went to the right team this year and the SEC cleaned house! What were we? 7-2 in bowls?
