Trump's tariffs now cost Americans more than Obamacare taxes
"If every currently proposed tariff is enacted, the total trade tax burden will nearly double even the tax burden of the pre-reform ACA"
Quote:
With the added $20 billion in trade taxes coming from this latest round of tariffs, the National Taxpayers Union Foundation now estimates the total annual cost of enacted tariffs to be $41.65 billion. That easily outpaces the tax bill from the Affordable Care Act for next year ($34.6 billion) after accounting for recent changes to the ACA.
Trump's tariffs have already cost Ford $1B; now it's planning layoffs
Quote:
"as a result of China's tit-for-tat tariffs.... Morgan Stanley estimates "a global headcount reduction of approximately 12 percent,” or 24,000 of Ford's 202,000 workers worldwide."
Trump Defends Separating Families at the Border - Oct. 13, 2018

So we are the terrorists now, using fear tactics against people just seeking a better life.Quote:
"Trump defends separating families at the border, saying the fear it evokes deters some immigrants"
"If they feel there will be separation, they don’t come," he said.
The lie he always tells about immigrants being bad people: "You’ve got some really bad people out there." This has been proven to be false a million times but he keeps saying it anyone because his psycho idiot supporters believe him anyway.
When reminded that Ford's worst memory was the attempted rapists laughing at her, Trump was asked if he was treating her with respect when he mocked her and laughed at her at his campaign rallies.
Trump: "It doesn't matter, we won."

It's usually the little things that get me.

Why is it that he has to confirm Khashoggi is not a US citizen during the interview? Why??? The president of USA half the time has no clue what the hell is happening around him.
Agree Xywalan. And on the actual policy, I don't necessarily disagree. I don't think this issue should necessarily cancel the arms deal. We've historically been able to completely fuck people over who turn on us by refusing to sell them replacement parts for things they bought from us for billions/trillions. That deal is as much about us controlling them as it is the money.
But to say it the way he does, that this guy's life isn't worth the money of the deal, is unnecessarily crass and cruel. He could easily say something to the effect of: "I don't believe them. We are continuing to investigate. There will be repercussions." And if someone asks about the arms deal specifically he can say "That is a separate matter."
Also, since I don't want to ever post to this thread without adding something new:
Trump hung a painting in the White House of himself hanging out with dead Republican presidents
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DpghSQLUYAACi9Z.jpg
As if Lincoln, Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, etc. would have ever spent time with him by choice.
The families of those people should sue for the misuse of their likenesses.
Is it bad that it looks like a badly photoshopped image? Like, he found a picture of a bunch of R's hanging out, and then had somebody photoshop his image into it.

I don't know what the consequences are going to be, but anyone who ships internationally either to or from the US should be aware of this.
This thread needs more update. Of course everyone knows about the recent shitshow but probably few know about this:

Trump's continued personal insults towards black women in the media who ask him basic, normal questions has accelerated of late.
All Revved Up: Trump And Black Women In The Media
Quote:
President Trump’s contempt for the media, which he has dubbed the “enemy of the people,” is no secret. The president has also publicly criticized and insulted several prominent black women, including Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who he has described as having a “low IQ.”
This week Trump singled out three African-American female journalists for asking him questions — Abby Phillip, who Trump said asked “stupid” questions, April Ryan, whom he called “a loser,” and Yamiche Alcindor, who, according to Trump, asked “a racist question” about his white nationalist supporters during a press conference at the White House.
Agree this thread was badly in need of updates.
Adding to the explanation of what a disaster Trump's latest trip abroad was:
Trump may be a disaster at home. But he’s even worse overseas.
100% accurate.Quote:
No president has been worse at this diplomatic function than Donald Trump. He is most comfortable in rallies before throngs of adoring acolytes. When he goes overseas, he is sycophantic with dictators and painfully ill at ease among democratic leaders, because his protectionist and isolationist views are so out of line with theirs, and he is utterly incapable of defending himself with reasoned discourse. He makes boastful speeches, sulks and pouts if his ego is not massaged, and then retreats to the safety of his hotel room or airplane to zing his peers via Twitter.
Quote:
Trump’s latest trip to Europe was, as usual, an embarrassment to the country that he leads. It began and ended with Twitter insults.
Quote:
This was the most embarrassing trip by an American president abroad … since the last one Trump took. That was the trip in July when he acted utterly supine before Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, accepting as truthful his “strong and powerful” denials of Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election.
Quote:
Bad as he is at home — no president has been more incoherent, dishonest and offensive — he is even worse overseas. Is there a single good thing that has occurred when Trump has gone abroad?
Daniel Dale, a reporter from Canada, has been given the task of fact checking and tracking all of Donald Trump's lies and false statements. It is a fascinating job he has.
815 false claims: The staggering scale of Donald Trump’s pre-midterm dishonesty

It took Donald Trump until the 286th day of his presidency to make 815 false claims.
He just made another 815 false claims in a month.
Daniel Dale Tweets ‘How Much Lying Did Donald Trump Do in the Run-Up to the Midterms? He Made 815 False Claims in One MonthQuote:
If Trump is a serial liar, why call this a list of “false claims,” not lies? You can read our detailed explanation here. The short answer is that we can’t be sure that each and every one was intentional. In some cases, he may have been confused or ignorant. What we know, objectively, is that he was not telling the truth.
But this one is my favorite:
It’s easy to fact check Trump’s lies. He tells the same ones all the time.
Keep the above paragraph in mind any time you hear or read anything Trump says. It is uncanny.Quote:
Listen to this president long enough, and you can almost sense when a lie is coming. If Trump tells a story in which an unnamed person calls him “sir,” it’s probably invented. If Trump claims he has set a record, he probably hasn’t. If Trump cites any number at all, the real number is usually smaller.
Today during an interview:
https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1064173712151330816
There is no way anyone said that to him. That is an absurd, obvious lie. And there it is, just like Daniel Dale said... he used "sir" in his made up story. Hilarious.Quote:

GM cutting 14,700 jobs after losing $1 billion in Trump’s trade war
Trump threatens GM CEO after plant closings announced
I am constantly amazed at how downright STUPID Donald Trump is. He is just a very unintelligent, shallow thinking, un-clever man.
1) GM has to close 5 plants and lose 15k jobs because of lost sales to due to the trade war caused by Trump's tarrifs.
2) He then makes THREATS to GM: "I heard you’re closing your plant," recounting a conversation with GM CEO Mary Barra "It’s not going to be closed for long, I hope, Mary, because if it is you have a problem."... "I said, ‘then put a car in here that is selling well, but get it opened fast."
Yeah, because that's how it works. You just wave a wand and pump out a top selling car. Oh wait, you can't because the international markets you need to sell in are engaged in retaliatory trade war practices because of your tarriffs.
What an idiot.
3) Shares of GM up 5% because people who understand business and economics know this is the only move GM can do that makes economic sense for the company.
"We recognize the need to stay in front of changing market conditions and customer preferences to position our company for long-term success," Barra said in a statement posted to the company’s website.
"These actions will increase the long-term profit and cash generation potential of the company and improve resilience through the cycle," she added.
"The bosom of America is open to receive not only the Opulent and respectable Stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all Nations And Religions; whom we shall welcome to a participation of all our rights and privileges, if by decency and propriety of conduct they appear to merit the enjoyment." -George Washington, letter, Dec. 2, 1783.
These aren't people. These are animals. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists! They pour into and infest our country." -Trump 2018

George Washington gets larger text because he was a great man, and Trump words don't even deserve to be the size they are here compared to Washington's.
I think it is hard to update this thread b/c it would simply be too much work. Every day he does some new dumb or evil thing.
But this was gloriously dumb:
Donald Trump trips up on history in 4th of July speech, mentions airports during Revolutionary War
Quote:
"Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over airports," Trump said of the fighting force created by the Continental Congress in 1775.
More losing:
American taxpayers paid over $90 billion more under Trump tax law
Quote:
And after refunds, the IRS collected about $93 billion more from individual American taxpayers than it did in 2017. Interestingly, that number stands close to the tax break amount that corporations received from the TCJA in 2018. Last year, big businesses paid $91 billion less in taxes than they had in 2017, prior to the new law's passage.

Not a surprise that Trump and his ilk are actually at the heart of the problem he is complaining about:

24 immigrants have died in ICE custody during the Trump administration
Quote:
"What we're seeing is a reckless and unprecedented expansion of a system that is punitive, harmful and costly," said Katharina Obser, senior policy adviser at the Women's Refugee Commission, an advocacy group. "The U.S. government is not even doing the bare minimum to ensure [immigrants] are getting the medical care and the mental health care they need."
1,556 more migrant families were separated under Trump than previously known
Quote:
The government told a federal court on Thursday that more than 1,500 migrant families were forcibly separated by U.S. authorities before the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy was fully implemented, meaning a total of at least 4,300 families were separated before a judge ordered officials to halt the controversial practice.
Trump asked about shooting migrants crossing border in the legs: Sources
Quote:
According to two sources familiar with the matter, Trump in private meetings raised the prospect of shooting migrant families seeking asylum at the border as early as November 2018. He also floated a similar idea publicly at one point, suggesting that rocks thrown by migrants will be considered a firearm and potentially warrant lethal force.
Quote:
the president also talked to aides about building an electrified border wall, as well as a “water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate.”

Trump Said U.S. Is 'Getting Raped' by NATO, Has Pushed to Exit Alliance According to White House Insider
This is absolute lunacy.
Breaking up NATO has been Russia/USSR's #1 geopolitical goal for 70 years. NATO is the most successful political alliance in the history of the world.
There is absolutely no way to deny that Trump is 100% owned by Russia and absolutely doing their bidding. There are way too many examples.
Insane. Totally INSANE.
It's so depressing, and discouraging and really truly horrifying to have to sit there and see all this happen, when everyone KNOWS its wrong but because of political reasons, they don't do the right thing and stop this shit. I truly hope America can recover from this.
Trump being a pile of evil human garbage doesn't shock me.
What shocks me is the entire Republican party stepping aside or helping him do every evil, horrible thing.
US veterans say Trump views military ‘as tool for massacres’ after reinstating accused war criminal to Navy
Quote:
US veterans decried Donald Trump’s orders to restore an accused war criminal's rank in the Navy, saying the decision “sets a dangerous precedent” and suggests the commander-in-chief views the military “as a tool for massacres”.
Numerous veterans spoke out about the move to The Independent after Secretary of Defence Mark Esper confirmed he was ordered by the president to retain Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher’s status in the elite service, as well as his Trident pin, a prestigious special warfare insignia.
“Ever since Donald Trump became president he’s been tearing the military apart, putting troops in the difficult position of needing to choose between obedience to his unhinged orders, and staying true to our code of honour,” said Alexander McCoy, a former Marine and political director of the veteran group Common Defence. “By pardoning war criminals because Fox News told him to, Trump showed he sees our military as a tool for massacres, not as the professional, honourable force we aspire to be.”
There is no question that cocaine Mitch is going to acquit Trump, none, but the great danger is Trump winning in 2020. In addition to the obvious tragedy of having the most corrupt, most incompetent and the most dangerous modern president serving two terms, there is also the none obvious danger of extreme erosion of checks and balances.
A Trump win will make Democrats to conclude that impeaching the US president will help them get reelected. As a result, there wont be checks and balances in a system that is already exploding with massive conflicts of interests and corruption. We already have this: Supreme Court will hear three cases over Trump’s financial records and obviously Trump expects the judges he appointed serve his interests and if they don't, he will make sure the future appointees will.
Trump Pays $2 Million to 8 Charities for Misuse of Foundation
In any other time, this alone would be grounds for resignation or impeachment.
Quote:
President Trump has paid $2 million to eight charities as part of a settlement in which the president admitted he misused funds raised by the Donald J. Trump Foundation to promote his presidential bid and pay off business debts, the New York State attorney general said on Tuesday.
Quote:
the president admitted in court documents that he had used the foundation to settle legal obligations of his businesses and even to purchase a portrait of himself.
Quote:
Mr. Trump, who at first dismissed the suit as a political attack, made 19 detailed admissions, acknowledging, for example:
- He admitted the foundation had purchased the $10,000 portrait of himself that was ultimately displayed at one of his Florida hotels.
- He admitted to using the foundation’s money to settle obligations of some of his for-profit companies, including a golf club in Westchester County, N.Y., and Mar-a-Lago,
- He admitted that the foundation had given his presidential campaign control over about $2.8 million that the foundation had raised at a veterans fund-raiser in Iowa in January 2016.
It really makes me sad that something this horrible is just a drop in the bucket for the absolute scum we have in office as POTUS.
Former Bush Ethics Lawyer Says Republicans Have Impeachment Trial 'Rigged,' Warns 'GOP Will Not Survive'
Quote:
Richard W. Painter, who served as the chief White House ethics lawyer in President George W. Bush's administration, warned that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has acted in a "corrupt" manner and has "rigged" a potential Senate trial for President Donald Trump.
"This is about the rule of law, not partisanship. I am an independent and am a critic of corrupt Democrats as well as Republicans here in Minnesota and elsewhere. For me the facts are clear: @senatemajldr has this impeachment trial rigged. "
In a previous Sunday evening tweet, the legal expert warned: "The conduct of @senatemajldr in this impeachment trial is corrupt and partisan beyond the pale. The GOP will not survive if this continues." Painter asserted that "this is not about partisan politics," noting that he has "taken on corrupt Democrats" in the past as well.
A family member posted one of those stupid "Trump donated his salary to (some random thing). Isn't he so great?"
Everything Trump does is dishonest, but this one really ticks me off.
This is an absolutely trivial and irrelevant amount of money compared to what he has literally stolen through violations of the emoluments clause of the Constitution.
He has stolen $115 million and counting by illegally forcing the government to pay his resorts - the most despicable act of self-dealing in government history.
This man is a liar, a thief, a cheat, a scammer of charities (Just recently convicted and fined $2 million for defrauding charities), an adulterer, and an evil fiend who separates families from each other and cages children.
Posting ANY deceptive crap like this that tries to argue there is ANYTHING positive about this guy is to be complicit in his evil regime.

Trump Foundation. As a result of that failure, charitable dollars — consistently and over many years — often benefited Trump rather than the causes the president has repeatedly claimed he supports."

Scores of Republican lawmakers enriched themselves off the Trump tax cuts
Sad, but not shocked. The national debt increased by $3 trillion under Trump and the only people benefiting are the super rich and corporations. We could give everyone free health care, forgive student debt, family/medical leave, subsidize college, and more instead of this. What a sad and disgusting waste of our nation's wealth. All so a few thousand people can add to their dragon's hoard of wealth that is more than they could ever spend.
We are living in a dystopia.

U.S. farm bankruptcies hit an eight-year high: court data
Amazing how losing a trade war for 3 years with our most important international trade partner for agricultural goods results in farmers going bankrupt at record rates.
The whole "Trump is good for the economy" farce needs to be more widely exposed. It simply isn't accurate.
I would never defend trade wars, and I won't downplay the importance of farmers, but there is likely a bigger picture there than just "the trade war". Agriculture is a fast paced industry that is getting harder and harder for the "family farm" to do competitively. Bankruptcy is not necessarily a herald of the end-times. If it turns out that the changes in our agricultural landscape are a good thing, I don't want to give Trump too much credit.
