Is it really so hard *NOT* to molest or sexually abuse children? My god... this guy made music for Sesame Street........

I see stories now and then about women doing this stuff to children, but it definitely seems to be a significantly more common problem among men. I've basically grown up hearing about all of this, and it was especially relevant having gone K-high school in the Catholic school system.

I don't know if I'm just jaded or if there is more truth to this than people want to acknowledge, but any time I come across a man who wants to do a job (or start non-profit/charity considering recent events) that would give him access to children, my mind assumes some deviant motive. Priests, scout leaders, coaches... just ugh.

My. God.

I deliberately stayed away from the Penn State scandal, because I really don't know if I can hold my emotions in check when in regards to this. But this, I can't stay away from for 2 very particular reasons. First and foremost, this ... monster made music for Sesame Street. Second is the location. I lived in Charleston for a few years. I just wish I was there now, and I had 3 minutes in a room with that man with no cameras or witnesses and no consequences for me after the door was opened.. This is something that I really honestly believe I can feel my blood boil when I hear about it.

There is no excuse. None. No man should be left alone in a room with a small child unsupervised by one other adult. I'm literally shaking right now. I ... ugh.

Trust me. I'd handle it. He wouldn't touch or look at a child again. Hard to do when you have no hands, and no eyes. Not to mention what I'd do to a bit more ... sensitive spots.

Don't bother with petitions. Just start contacting sysadmins in the area, tell them that this guy is partial cause of all that kiddie porn spam. "Spamming <i>from</i> the home of a BOFH is rarely done twice, intact fingers being a prerequisite to sending spam." Nobody would deny that this, which is not a threat, is absolutely true.

Plus, sysadmins have a variety of 100% legal and/or "accidental" things they can do. Oh, sorry, you were inside when we did our regularly scheduled Halon test? Whoopsy.

Sorry, but that's criminalising the lot of us. These are tragedies and scandals, but to say something like that is throwing the world out with the bathwater.

I'd rather throw every single person (male & female) under the bus 100 times than to see this happen to another child, Khaltek. Yes. I'm criminalizing. This is true. But I would expect anyone to look at me twice if I was in a shower (like at Penn State) or had a child that wasn't mine with his own bedroom in my basement (like the Syracuse Guy), or if I'm looking at Kiddy Porn on the Internet.

What I said encompasses everyone. Myself included. While 99% of the time it isn't what the above cases are, that 1% is more than enough for me to want this to be a standard.

That isn't what you said, though. Of course these are, to put it mildily, "suspicious circumstances", but you said "a room" as in any room.

Criminalizing all of us is akin to racial profiling, except worse, because it makes us all suspects in the world we live in.

Would you license all kitchen knives to help trace all stabbings, or have 72-hour check-in times at airports to stop all hijackings? There are ways to help stop crimes from happening, but attacking human dignity with paranoia isn't really one of them.

And you're absolutely right. I'm paranoid. Because I have a boy. A little one. And if some sick individual decides that they would like to cop a feel, or what the hell ever, I'll be under a jail cell. I don't think every man on this planet is fucked up. I just worry that every man on this planet is fucked up. There are only a handful of people on this planet that I'd trust with my child in a room by themselves. So lets change my statement. No man will be in my room that I don't trust with my child unsupervised.

And people can like it, lump it, or kiss my ass. I have the choice in this matter.

If that makes me out to be criminalising men on the planet, then I say so be it. It doesn't hurt my feelings if someone else's feelings are hurt when it comes to the welfare of my kid.
