Digital Cameras
My Canon PowerShot decided to freeze up on me out of the blue. They recommend getting it serviced, but it will probably be cheaper to get a new camera.
Anyone out there have any suggestions for a camera with good zoom capability that can take pictures pretty rapidly in a row without having to wait? (I am not sure what the technical camera term for that is.) Oh and relatively reasonably priced too. I am not wanting to spend $500 on a camera.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you want a camera you can put in your pocket? Do you need a camera for landscape photography? Weight? Dimensions? Help us a bit...

I dont' want overly huge or heavy. One that can be put in a purse. I want it mostly for taking pictures of the kids and family events.

This is a very reliable camera and it takes great pictures, the only thing is, if you want to beable to rapid shoot with the camera and have a super-good-zoom then a SLR is the only way to go and they are a lot larger and they are $500+

My wife shoots with a Canon Rebel XSi I think. It was pretty pricey, but we love the shots. She takes four or five pictures now where she used to be lucky to even get one. She seems to love it for taking pictures of our son and she brings it everywhere we go. We look like tourists when we go to Wal-Mart!

Yeah I figured for what I want that it was going to be an expensive camera, but I still would like to her what is out there. I really am pretty uninformed when it comes to cameras.

We used to have a Casio Exilim, and it lasted for four years without a problem. We got this new one just because my wife wanted an SLR. If all you want is a point and shoot, the Casio is pretty inexpensive and takes good quality photos.

I was just looking online and the Casio Exilim caught my eye. I read a pretty good review for it actually.
I also saw an Olympus, but I have no experience with that kind of camera. It even had a 26x Optical Zoom. I am not sure I need that much zoom, but it looked interesting. It was creeping up there on the price range though. Anyone have experience with Olympus?

Oh yeah.. what does SLR stand for?

Single lens reflex. Yea, I was completely happy with it. Jenine just insisted on having the camera and I caved one day and just surprised her with it on the way to the Atlanta Aquarium.
