I agree with booting harry potter - there are plenty of other classics to have chosen from. But Bravo on Wargames and The Last Starfighter. I grew up on that shit, and they're still two of my favs when I feel like tripping down memory lane.
Actually, a good replacement for Harry Potter would have been "Witches" or even "The Worst Witch" though I prefer the former.
The Last Starfighter is awesome.... DEATH BLOSSOM!

Oh man, I used to practically pee myself with excitement when I'd see that. Of course, I was like.. 8?

I loved both those movies so much. Sigh. I'm totally going to end up ordering them both now. Another one that I loved when I was little was Labyrinth.
Actually, I just got "The Worst Witch" on netflix a few weeks ago, but I actually meant to get "Witches" which I remembered alot better from a child. Good times!
Chitty! Absolutely! The breakfast machine, as they mention, is pretty impressive, and all the other toys under the windmill are worth a look at. I'd love to just walk around the workshop with Potts, learning about his inventions. Unfortunately only his children have faith in him, so we, the viewers, never get the guided tour.
What, no Willow? PECK!
Damn, good call with the Willow. I just remembered how much I loved that as a kid.
Willow was definately good.
Legend and the Last Unicorn. Those were my two favorites as a kid.
The Hobbit is also a good starter for LOTR for the younger kids.
A lot of good choices in there. I wasn't really surprised to see a lack of Clash of the Titans, but that and the bad Lou Ferrigno Hercules movies were memorable parts of my childhood.
It would probably be awesome to watch My Neighbor Totoro with your kid. I felt like a kid watching that. Damn, now I want to go ride a catbus.
Weird Science should be in there.
To raise your kids on? There is a lot of sexual content and alcohol use in Weird Science. I mean, I love the movie, but I definitely wouldn't raise my kids on it.Quote:

Boot that stupid anime thing, kids get more than enough of that with Dragonball Z, Pokemon et all. Wait untill they're old enough for Akira. I say replace it with Flight of the Navigator. Also, take Harry Potter out and replace it with The Princess Bride.
Yeah you are right. It was late when I posted that. Late night posting and me don't mix.Quote:

I forgot about Flight of the Navigator, I loved that movie! And yeah, there's no way a kid should miss out on The Princess Bride. I'd probably throw Stardust in too, though it wouldn't be as crucial as Princess bride.Quote:

Right on! Good call! Is the Princess Bride not "geeky" enough? or does that just show my utter geeki-ness?Quote:

I thank you for posting it though. I've been thinking of the movie all day.Quote:

Random: "Noooooooo. You didn't hang up on her! The chick with those big big titties?"
Anthony Michael Hall (AMH): "I hung up on the bitch."
and later:
Le Brock: "She kneed his nuts and called him faggot in front of all his friends."
Random: (indignant) "She did WHAT?!?!?"
AMH: "The bitch kneed my nuts."
AMH: "In the family jewels."
Random: "Worse pain there is."
AMH: "Broke my heart in two!"
Random: "Broke more than your heart..."
That's from memory, so excuse any mistakes. :)
They could easily do a top 25 nerdy movies to raise your kid on. Everyone's had some fantastic ideas - Flight of the Navigator was hands down my favorite. Princess Bride is extremely classic, and nerdy. And so much more!
'Course, they could also easily make a top list of nerdy movies to see as a pre-teen or teenager (and in some cases, movies to not get caught watching). Wierd Science is a good example, the Porkey's movies come to mind, Cheech and Chong etc etc etc. Anything with heavy sexual themes or debauchery in general.
I disagree Khortez. Some of the anime that you listed is mindless, pointless, sell this product drivel. Hayao Miyazaki's work is a bit more, I dunno, thoughtful and (some of it) is more family oriented. It's good geeky fun, compared to pointless, seizure inducing spam.
I can actually hear Anthony Michael Hall saying those things in his high cracking pubescent voice. He was great.Quote:

Me again...
Back to the topic at hand. I really loved the movie War Games. I saw it a few weeks ago and it was just pretty pathetic with the Atari like computers that they used. It would be really awesome if they remade that movie.
I think they did. I saw it in Blockbuster recently, and I have heard it was horrible.Quote:

There's been a lot of this over the last few years. For some reason without the tacky charm of the 80's these movies just don't work!Quote:

I bought a copy of "The Bride" the other day, my kids loved it. The only iffy part of it is there is a scene where she's completely nude. I just told em both to close their eyes. :rolleyes
Really? i dont remember that at all! But, im glad, because now I was right when I said years ago that Fred Savage would end up doing porn.Quote:

Har, I remember my mother making me watch The Princess Bride when I was a kiddie. I hated, hated, hated that I was forced to watch it, until I got to see Inigo Montova in action.
Even now I get choked up over his end duel.
Also, if you manage to spot a copy of the DVD of this movie, freeze frame the lead male and female (forget their names, only Inigo matters) tumbling down the hill before they flee into that swamp/forest.
Take a look at the person doing the stunts, what the fuck!?
Wargames seriously rocked... (btw so did Wierd Science but we agree not prescibed viewing for kidlets).
I love the whole computer equating Nuclear War to Tic Tac Toe.
Of course common sense says it wouldn't work today. Increases in processing power means the computer would have had the launch codes and fired before Matthew Broderick was even off the line.
Oh.. and Willow seriously needs to be in there too..
Yes I guess there was an innocence in War Games. Today it would be a bunch of squirrely hackers breaking into the system within seconds and BLAMO. (nothing against you squirrely hackers)
I absolutely love Princess Bride. Though my kids can watch it, I think you have to be more of an adult to understand some of the humor. It really is one of my favorite movies. My favorite part is Andre the Giant. He was so great and unintelligible. I think i will have to get it out and see how my kids like it. It has been a while since I have had it on.
Oh yeah... Willow is really great too.
I do not think there was any nudity in "The Princess Bride." I hope he was referring to "The Bride" instead.Quote:

Yeah I don't think there is nudity in Princess Bride either
Ah, my mistake. Fred Savage is saved.Quote:

"The Bride" is a frankenstein movie, with Sting as Frankenstein. It really is a great movie and the nudity was sort of brief (though it was full-frontal), and not porn-like at all. Was a very artistic type of movie, a romance. The kids loved the midget the most, he rocked. :rolleyes
