I said that the controversy was about equal justice. The participants are usually just happy to have shown how tough they are by being willing to fight. Having it broken up allows them to continue posturing and feeling "bad ass" without having to run the risk of getting the shit kicked out of them and some permanent harm done to them.

Assuming the above is correct:
1) Hanging up nooses is not a crime, nor should it be. It is despicable and disgusting, and the people who do it should be shunned, mocked, humiliated, and ostracized. But it is not a crime. It is free expression. We are really heading down a slippery slope when we start trying to punish people's state of mind with hate crime legislation and other such things.
2) In the matter of these 6 kids, the specifics of some other random case are irrelevant. I do not know the circumstances of the other case(s), and I suspect most of the people involved in the protest do not either. If there is a problem with unfair carriage of justice, then that needs to be addressed specifically. Protesting in favor of a couple of thug kids like this is NOT the way to improve anything.
Your list is correct but misses out on some points. There were OTHER crimes that occurred between the noose hanging and the final assault that WEREN'T treated appropriately. You are just jumping from A to Z and missing out on B,C,D etc.
The Jena six committed a crime which should be treated seriously. Most people argue that it should be treated seriously. What most people are upset about is that nothing done by the whites in this period of time was treated with more than a slap on the wrist.
When you say the noose hangers should have been mocked and what not. They weren't. That's a major part of the problem. The town authorities and school authorities (I have read that the principle resigned in protest after the expulsions of the white students was rescinded) said it was nothing but a prank and that the blacks should get over it.

- Two of the Jena six (Bailey and Shaw) were arrested for second-degree robbery, theft of a fire-arm, and conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery after attacking and robbing a white man.
- 6 black kids get mad, and find some white kid to beat the shit out of.
- The white kid they beat the shit out was not one of the noose hangers, in fact the beating was months after the noose incident.
- They beat(by beat, you mean kicked and stomped on the head and chest of) this kid even after he was unconscious.(Note: Behavior like that is generally an automatic definition of attempted murder.)
There is zero valid logical or moral reason you can say these kids should be let go free and not charged with attempted murder... especially when two robbed someone at GUNPOINT just weeks before this beating.
There is not racist application of the law here, in this case. There was not six white kids who stomped on the head of an unconscious black kid next to this fight who were let go free...
They committed a very disturbing and vicious crime. They were charged for that crime. Please explain where this, in any way, is racist.

The school(and town in general by the sound of it) is highly segregated. A group of black students, as a protest against the segregation, decided to stand beneath a tree that was viewed as a "white" area. The next day there was 3 nooses hanging from that tree. I think people are pretty justified in viewing the noose hanging as a threat of violence against those students. I don't know how it works down there, but threats of violence aren't a legally protected form of free expression up here in Canada, nor should they be.
About 2 months later, a black student got beaten at a party by several white people, some of them armed with beer bottles. Only one of the white people involved in the beating was charged, and recieved probation.
About 4 days after that beating, a group of six white students(including the ones that hung the nooses) began taunting the black student that was beaten and his friends, calling them niggers and laughing about how the student had got his ass kicked. The black students being mocked apparently waited for the opportunity to get one of those white students alone, and beat him. It wasn't a random white student at all from what I read. It was a white student that had been spewing racial epithets at them and mocking them over the beating that had occured several days previous. Neither the black student that got beaten nor the white student that got beaten sustained any serious injuries.
To me, the relevant facts are this: A black student was beaten by a white group, some of whom were armed with beer bottles. The white group got off pretty much scott free. A white student was beaten by an apparently unarmed group of black students. The black group is having the book thrown at them.
I believe the black students should be charged appropriately. I also believe that the white group should have been charged appropriately. While I believe it's ridiculous to call for the black students to go free, I think what seems to be going on in Jena deserves to be protested, and it needs to be looked at closely, because it seems to me like there are some pretty hideous miscarriages of justice going on. I'm appalled that places like this still exist.
It's racist because the prosecutor did not charge whites who beat up the black kid with a beer bottle a similar crime, the whites did not face jail. The prosecutor has been a total fuck throughout this. If you can't see why his overcharging the black youths and undercharging the white adults is unequal justice then I don't know what to say.
One set did not have a prior violent crime convictions or charges. One set did not -commit- attempted murder.
The way I see it.... Reverse the races in both instances.
Do you let off the black kids that have no record of violent crime easy for a fight that happened? Yeah, fights happen. Do you then a few weeks later press serious charges on the white kids WITH violent crime records more harshly? Yes. You do. They didn't 'make a one time mistake' they repeatedly demonstrated that they are a danger to society, so you try to remove them from society.
They were not the same crimes.
The sets of people had two different records and histories of violent crime.
Is THIS example racist? If the races are reversed in the respective positions? In THIS example was there unfair justice?
This is ridiculous. There is a whole context here which starts from the fact that there is a tree in the school where ONLY whites sit. That there is a town whose white citizens say that hanging a noose ISN'T a racist act.
The whole town shrugs its shoulders at white trees and nooses and smashing people over the head with beer bottles. They shrug their shoulders when the prosecutor says to black students that he can wipe their lives out with a pen stroke.
This town is racist, these blacks are treated like second class citizens. Is it any bloody surprise that they have criminal records? We have this problem in australia too where blacks are charged with crimes that whites aren't. The funny thing about that is then that blacks have criminal records and whites don't.
The fact that black kids have records in a town where the white justice system overcharges blacks with crimes and undercharges whites isn't that much of a surprise.
