Fantasy Hockey 2007-2008

It is very interesting to be a Ranger fan with a Penguin fantasy goalie, facing off against a Penguin fan in the finals... as the Rangers and Penguins play a series. Last night's solid Fleury performance in an OT loss was about the only way that fantasy and real life fandom could have avoided a battle to the pain. Anyway, it was a damn fine series.

Do you guys start goalies when they're playing your team? I sometimes bench them out of some irrational sense of respect. When I do start them, I know that a Rangers win trumps a fantasy loss anyway. A solid goalie performance is, at best, minor consolation for a loss. Just wondering if anyone else shares that silly struggle.

I did last season when I really paid a lot of attention, but this season I just kinda said 'eh' and start anyway. I'd rather take the goalie loss in fantasy and have the Penguins win than vice-versa.

And the '07-'08 Fantasy Hockey season comes to a close with a bang.

Burned Toast took a big early lead against The Newbs, only to switch places the last week. Coming into last night, the score was 8-7 for The Newbs and it could've gone either way. Burned Toast managed to come out of the deficit and tie it all up 8-8 at the end of the night. Unfortunately for them, The Newbs managed to win the tie-breaker, having beaten BT in three of their four match-ups this year. BT will have to settle for 4th place this year, with The Newbs managing to post a 3rd place finish in only their second year, an improvement over last year's 4th place finish. BT falls two spots from the previous year's finish of 2nd place, to 4th place this year.

Drink Bud Ice and the Frosty Aquamonkeys duked it out for the past two weeks, with the Aquamonkeys emerging triumphant in first place. This is the second 1st place finish for the Aquamonkeys in three years, and a vast improvement over their dismal 5th place finish last year.

Final Standings:
Frosty Aquamonkeys - 1st Place
Drink Bud Ice - 2nd Place
The Newbs - 3rd Place
Burned Toast - 4th Place
Bladerunners - 5th Place
Headthrashers - 6th Place

Prizes for the year are for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There were 6 entries at $20/person, for a total of $120 in prize money.

Hey: You fantasy hockey folks, why don't you tell us about what happened this year, so those of us that didn't watch hockey (or this thread) can get an idea of how things went down.

Also, maybe that will spur some interest for next year. :)

I am only waiting on a PM from Talsek at this point.
