It's okay though... A goat curse can only last 100 years right?

There are 30 teams in the MLB.
#23, 25, and 26 are going to the CS's
Face.
I love, and think it is great, but it raises one more question for me.Quote:

If Boston wins it all (they are what, #2 in payroll?) does it invalidate any of this? If they win, does it make the other low budget teams success kinda pointless, if the final truth is the only way to win it all is spend in the top 5?
I hope that doesnt happen, but the numbers dont show that you cant buy wins, cause the yankees always go to the playoffs... so it looks like you can buy your way in.
I just hate baseball alot. I hate that a few teams can have a payroll that is so rediculously out of kilter with the majority of the teams.
I know they also generate alot of revenue, but it definately makes 28 teams just look like farm teams for the bosox and yankees.
anyhow, Im one of the people that like to pile on when the yankees lose.
The randomness inherent in the game is generally such that while you can't buy the World Series every year, you mostly -can- buy your way into the playoffs, as was already noted, especially with the advent of the wildcard.
That said, I haven't looked at the Vegas odds but I'll wager the Red Sox are strong favorites to win the WS now that the Yankees are eliminated.
Yes and no. The Sox are #2 in payroll I believe - #3, 4, and 5, who are the Angels, the White Sox, and I forget the 5th - are all fairly close together; $120M, $105M, and $104M - something on par with one another. The Yankees top out around 200 million now. They're still 166% of their next nearest competitor, whereas the Red Sox are only 113% or so their next nearest. The question, I supose, is if that 50% or so relative differential is enough to strike you as material. I think it is, but I'm not even really a baseball fan so much as a Yankee hater - so I'll leave whether or not it truly is one to others who know much more than I do.Quote:
