Videogames responsible for V Tech Shooting

Blaming video games is so popular because for some reason people have to always find "other" reasons for what has occured. Such as video games, guns/gun laws, University security, etc. Instead of placing blame with the very sick individual who committed these crimes. I think, to some degree, it is societies way of processing what happened and attempting to come up with solutions so that it doesn't ever happen again. The sad thing is that people like Cho and other killers like this will find a way to committ these crimes no matter how prepared you are. Though I am by no means advocating for doing nothing to make things safer, it is just a sad truth that some people won't be stopped.

It's the terrorists, they've been secretly investing in our students to spread terror. Who needs Islamic fundamentalists when we have student mental-cases.

You're half right but half wrong. What's wrong is that the two sides of the debate think they are 100% right: video games causes real life shoot outs vs video games doesn't cause real life shoot outs.

We share at least a very violent game here, but the vast majority of us (as wierd and unique in our own ways) do not take it out of the game world. I've only known one case when a player intended physical harm to another player in real life.

Games bring these people out into the open, it's really up to the people who knew and did nothing. The classic cliche applied to the Virginia Tech shootings, there were visible indicators as the news reported - twisted graphic writings and the video games. But no one followed through, now we have 32 bodies. Obsessing over violent video games goes up the chain to the lack of responsible adults, duh.

No matter how difficult guns (or weapons in general) are to obtain, a person intent on using a weapon for illegal and criminal actions -WILL- find a way to acquire one. What people forget is that gun laws only affect the law abiding citizens. Few serious criminals ever go through the legal process of purchasing a firearm as it can lead to their eventual arrest. You will not solve the problem of weapons in the hands of criminals by tightening gun laws. All this will do is create an even larger black market of illegal and difficult to trace weapons.

This makes sense. People are too busy playing video games to go out and commit crimes! We need MORE video games to keep people busy so they don't have time to commit actual violence.

I just don't buy that at all. Taking Australia as an example, after the Port Arthur massacre our government tightened gun availability and underwent a buyback scheme that surrendered 600 000 guns at a cost of $500 million. Research by the Australian Institute of Criminology has shown this to be money well invested. Rates of homocide and armed robbery have fallen, and Australia's example has been followed by other countries including Canada and Britain.

The solution to a bad guy with guns isn't more guns. Make it impossible to get them in the first place.

The only question I have in all this, is the myth that if your roommate dies, you get the passing grade? If so, how does it apply here?

Read the first post and then read, from news.com. It's right there in the first paragraph if your attention span won't allow for the whole article.

No I do not work for a newspaper, I just know how to listen and read gooder. Sorry to disappoint but it is not my speculation, some guy named Jack Thompson (on Fox News) and another named Dr. Phil (on Larry King) associated video games into this incident.
