That might just mean he's better at speaking off the cuff. :)

Either that, or his subordinates are in big trouble every time he speaks. I've known some people to go out in public and say things, and THEN to come back and ask if it's possible. (I think Scott Adams made a series of Dilberts on the subject.)

It wasn't so much that he was making things up, it was just that he appeared to be speaking truthfully about things that went on in the senate/whatever little powerhouse he belongs to.

Or at least, didn't seem smarmy, condescending, arrogant, or downright stupid as most modern politicians appear to be (they all seem to fall into at least one category!)

Most politicians appear that way because they end up having to script every single thing they are going to say to minimize the knee-jerk reactions that always come. Any politician that achieves a name for themself does so at the disapproval of a large body of people. Those people are also voters and angering them to an excess of what sounding arrogant does is politically dangerous.

So far the only thing I know about the guy is his name and that he's black. I've heard something in passing that he might be from Africa or that there was some argument about such as being true. That part I have no information about and I might have been hearing wrong.

This happens due to the media's propensity for finding a story in the smallest insinuations. It is not in a politician's best interests to speak freely if the local mainstream-media socialist newspaper will crucify him before his constituents and thus affect his chances of being reelected.

I do not particularly like Obama, simply for the reason that the media fellates him for no reason that I am able to discern other than the simple fact that he is black and has not said anything ridiculously stupid yet. His "honest smile" does not compel me to support him.

How can you -dislike- someone because he's getting positive attention elsewhere. Liking someone based on who likes them is not exactly winning criteria.

I suppose I wasn't completely clear. I strongly distrust the mainstream media. As a result, I will tend to distrust any individual who they claim walks on water and can do no wrong. Obama, in my opinion, has done little or nothing to warrant the attention that is constantly showered upon him. It makes me believe that he is being pushed as part of an agenda (and I am probably right) as opposed to on his own merits.

I don't know what you mean.

I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense to like or dislike someone based on who else may or may not like them.

I just see too often when someone will dismiss someone (usu. public figures) because Group A likes them. It's like letting someone else decide your friends for you.

Anyway, you did get my second statement (which was just an extension of the first) since you did answer it.

And I agree, you don't want a mass media group to decide you you like, but by the same token, you shouldn't allow them to decide who you don't like. I'm pretty confident this isn't what you were saying, however.
