I see people making fun of Jesus every other episode of Family Guy, and I don't see many Christians bombing the Fox network. As flamed as I'm going to get for writing this, this just goes to show how many branches of Islam works. This will continue until they realize that they can't just wack people for making fun of their faith, they sometimes just have to tolerate it.

I was quite annoyed actually when I first heard it. But really when we look at what he said. You can see how he was misunderstood. He is just repeating everything that everyone has repeated before. Violence is not compatible with Islam. And like many have said before, Islam is a religion of peace. Some of the believers just are in really violent places.
The emperor he quoted was obviously going to say something like that since the Muslim Armies were at his borders and closer to Constantinople.
The point of the quote was not to condemn the religion of Islam rather condemn those who spread it by violence, i.e suicide bombing, car bombs, beheading.
And before I knew it, I received an e-mail from a friend, saying there were attacks on churches. I find Darion's post, not offensive, but very apt. But I must add this does not reflect the attitudes of many Muslims around the world. If you look at where the protests happen and who are doing it, it is mostly misinformed people. People with very little access to the information we can gather and analyse.
Some Muslim Fundamentals are taking this oppurtunity to flame the hatred and intolerance towards Catholics and other religions. The Pope did a good move in apologizing and quickly saying it was a misunderstanding. And he is said to be planning a public apology to all Muslims who are offended. This move, I predict, will quash most of the fires. But some will drive misinformation and continue violence. Sad but inevitable.
So these fuckheads are allowed to blanket all christians as bloodthirsty crusaders in the same breath as saying 'not all muslims are fundamentalists'. Heh...
Why bother apologising? It's clear they're just looking for another straw man. It's like the death row inmate suing the state over a broken cookie. Any excuse'll do, it seems.
(PS. I'm well aware that these idiots do not represent Islam, Muslim views worldwide, or even anything further than their own stupidity.)
The thing is (and this is directed partly toward Jarkis), if the fundamentalists aren't indicative of Islam as a whole (and I personally don't believe they are), where are all the other guys that AREN'T fundamentalists while all these random acts of violence are going on?
They are not listened to becaue the fundamentalists follow their own laws and rules? There were some "normal" voices about this from the muslim world, but it's a much better story for the media to bump the aggressive and violent callings.
Yes, the fact that a fundamentalist is in charge of a country pursuing nuclear technology (Iran) and calling for all Arabs to unite in the destruction of another country (Israel) does make for pretty good reading.
I've heard about enough 'Death to America', 'Death to Israel' to not give a fuck about whether someone's words from a long time ago offends them or not. It just so happens that I take offence to death threats directed to myself and others. It's also incredulous to hear the Taliban being offending and wanting an appology. Considering the wanton destruction of ancient religious site by this batch of filth.
Maybe it was a set up by Pope Benedict, knowing how over-the-top the reaction would be, thereby giving credence to the quote.
It's truly a shame that this sort of news is a result of it. Although it's hardly surprising. :(
And in defense of the Crusades, the first was organized to reclaim land that Muslims had in fact conquered because of spreading their faith through the sword....
It was a defensive act on the Christians part. A point commonly lost in most arguments about Muslim/Christian conflicts.
I won't speak for those Crusades that followed. Sometimes when you're on a roll you just have to keep going until you find out you're not as good at it as your predecessors.
Actually, the next crusades were just an anachronical ways of population control and dealing with too many sons for whom there was too little land. Plus the stories of riches and loot, and the pope giving his "aye" and total support to it - it was an all win situation.
