I remember the one thing that I learnt from a Steve Irwin program...if you turn them upside down, the brain fluid drains out of their brain case into a sub-case above it, this doesn't do much harm, but means that they are paralysed, and so immobilised! Now if only I could remember whether he was talking about Crocs or Gators...
This could be totally wrong, but at work this girl told me that his wife didn't even know he had died yet because she was off mountain climbing in Tanzunia.
How sad this all is :(
I've heard through hearsay and rumor (expect a lot of that kind of stuff from this) that only 3 people in Oz have died by stingray stabbing.
According to one article I read she was on a walking tour in Tasmania. When they got ahold of her to tell her he had died.Quote:

he was a bit of an odd duck, but he was clearly passionate about what he did. It's hard to fault someone who does what they truly love.
I am pretty sad about his death. He definitely cared a ton about the animals. Almost all of his money went into his zoo and various conservation efforts. He clearly loved his job, loved his family, and loved nature.
I am most sad to think about how his two kids will never know their dad. :(
He died doing what he loved most, can't ask for a better way to go than that. Cheers to the man's life.

If Kiania can back me up, from what I remember from working at the state aquarium, if you do get barbed - although the pain is excruciating, all you do it stick the area in water as hot as you can handle and it numbs the pain and neutralises the poision (which is protein based). Unfortunatly if you take one to the chest it brings on cardiac arrest - and your heart may explode on contact.
His wife was walking in Tasmania when she heard the news.
I just think its really sad that something he's spent his life to protect and campaign for finally took his life. I guess if he had the choice, he would have wanted to go by nature taking him out.
