I am so glad you started this. We were really late getting the momentum going last year and it was hectic.Quote:

Lets all start pumping this and try to get as many people involved as possible.
The big questions:
1) How much $ to enter.
2) Can people enter more than once?
3) Do we want any changes to the system we used last year, or the site? If you know a good site, recommend it!
Well, I'm definitely in this year, as this is my favorite sports-gambling type activity :D
1)How much $ to enter?
-I think $20 would be good.
2)Can people enter more than once?
-That depends on the answer to the next question. If we use the same site as last year, I personally don't have a problem with it. But I think each additional entry should cost another $10 or something.
3)Do we want any changes to the system we used last year, or the site?
-I was checking out the site from last year. I don't know whether it's just me or not, but it doesn't look like the site's even been updated since the pool ended last year.
4)Does anybody know an alternate place to host this?
-Everything I've found requires payment for setting up the pool. If what we're left with is those that require paying for, I'll just do it all by hand.
If folks decide to allow extra entries, they have to cost the same If one of those lesser cost entries won, it wouldn't be fair that they paid in less by still won the prize. Basically, they are lowering everyone else's odds of winning without paying in the same.
That site never updates until its time for March Maddess. It is a hobbyist site. I'd love something better.

Good point, and quite true. I'll keep looking!
Alrighty. I did a bit more searching, and came up with what, imo, is a much better site than the one that we've been using in the past. Pool Host I created an account and navigated the site a bit. It's simple enough to use I think. We can choose how many points per win for each round of March Madness, in addition to adding underdog bonuses, and a couple other little extra things. Take a look around the site, let me know what you think.
Looks great to me from what I saw. I say we go for it. Since the other one is like Ari said... a guy doing it as a side thing.
From what i could see, that site looks good. I'd also be in favor of allowing more than one entry.
EDIT BY ARISTOTLE: (hold on a second)
Vidare, lets make sure everyone agrees with the terms first.
Also, $10 registrations are murder on fees. That is why we only allow them for restart fees. The normal minimum is $20.
The Super Bowl pool was $25 and Fantasy Football is at least $25.
Is $25 too much for a March Madness pool to keep things consistent?
LAST YEAR we did $25 and I think it worked out pretty well (and not just because I walked away with a good chunk of the registration prize).
I'm definitely in this year, and I'm good with $25. I'm still a novice at these pools, so I won't weigh in too heavily on the points system. I'm going to win no matter what system we use, you're all going down like wives and girlfriends did yesterday after expensive dinners and flowers. All of your pool registrations are belong to me!!
Sorry, I was looking at the Pool Host site last night and saw that there was a deadline of the 17th, so I spazzed a bit, because we hadn't even started to really discuss things. But looking at it now, that was last year's deadline to get in picks.Quote:

I didn't realize that it was that way. I'd looked at one of the past MM threads, and saw that the registration was only $10.Quote:

I don't think it's too much. And consistency does help. $25 is good for me.Quote:

Count me in, bitches! I missed out on the Super Bowl pool... but every time I've made any kind of friendly bet with someone this season on the Steelers, they've lost, so karma came into play.. =\
But I have no bias with college hoops! Muahahaha.
What the hell? Deadline of the 17th? The tournament doesn't start until March 14th for crying out loud!
Ok, so lets set these rules:
1) $25 entry fee. You can have up to a total of 3 entries.
2) Deadline = ??
3) Site = ??
I am worried about the 17th deadline because that gives us NO TIME to hype it up to people and get as many participants as possible. I think we should find somewhere else.
I know the low-tech site we used in the past lets you create all the way up until the night before the tourney begins. I wouldn't mind changing to somewhere better, but a Feb 17th deadline is retarded. Think of everything that could happen to the teams in a month.
I'm checking into the deadline issue with poolhost.com I -THINK- they just haven't updated it from last year. I'll be able to tell everybody for certain shortly, I hope.
Alright. I just found out the deadline for the March Madness picks with the poolhost.com site, and it's March 16th.
Ok cool. That is much more sane.Quote:

So are we set then?
$25 per entry, up to 3 entries.
Register at poolhost.com ASAP?
Has a Threshold RPG pool been created there yet for people to join or do you want/need me to do that?
I think that we are set, yep.Quote:

Yep. http://www.poolhost.com to register. Once everybody's created an account and joined the pool, we can take a look at the point system, and decide how we're going to do it.
ThresholdRPG pool has already been created. I'll send you the information needed to join the pool, Aristotle, so that you can send it out to people as they register.
If you want to get signed up for this folks, you should try and take care of it quickly.
Also, start hyping it up to your buddies. The more people that are involved, the better the prizes!
I submitted my registration. It's going to be on, it's going to be on like Donkey Kong!
Let's go, people! Get registered and make your picks already! I guess this is partly my fault for not making the login info available to everyone until they registered. But since that doesn't seem to be working, here's what you need to login, join the pool, and make your picks.
Pool name: ThresholdRPG
Login name: ThresholdRPG
Password: aristotle
REMEMBER: $25/entry to a MAX of THREE entries per person
As of this post, you have THREE DAYS and TWENTY HOURS to register, join the pool, and make your picks.
I'm sorry! I ran out of checks, so I'm trying to find my other box so I can register. I'll be in before the deadline though. Go Memphis! :D
You have a backup? Is that in case the primary box is worn out and needs to recharge?Quote:

Just sent my registration in and signed up on poolhost website. Lets get some more people signed up. Time is running out!!
Make sure you taunt/nag/cajole people online via citizen and sports.
When we have the final list of people involved, I'll post the prize distribution (in the form of how much coin/xp/ThreshCredits will be earned at each level).
In the meantime, hype it up and get as many people involved as possible!
More people = Bigger Prizes & More Taunting throughout the entire tournament on the sports channel.
In and done, yo.
I had fun with this bracket - a lot of nice little personal indulgences :) It's so awesome to see so many teams that I like in the tournie this year!
So far only the following three people are registered for their bracket:
Aelyn
Vin
Gadiantor
All the rest are cowards. They know they don't stand a chance against my basketball greatness!!Quote:

Uhh huh... out of those three names, which one DIDN'T come in first last year?
You're obviously deluded, which is why you entered the pool. Everyone else realized that it would be more efficient to just have their registration money go directly to me. Aelyn got lucky last year. You're both going down like a drunk freshman at a frat party!Quote:

Vidare is registered now as well.
I hope there are more people signed up and just haven't done the reg yet, or this isn't going to be much of a pool. :(
Also, does the pool let people join for the next day or so, or was the crappy play-in game the deadline?
Let's GO PEOPLE! You've got TWELVE hours left to sign up for the pool!
Ailsing has signed up, but needs to register still.
FOUR HOURS AND THIRTY MINUTES! Get your asses signed up, and make your picks!
Unfortunately, Ailsing never finished picking her teams, and thus won't be factored into the standings as other than DFL due to incompletion.Quote:

It's okay. Everything is good in the world, because TAMU beat Syracuse. I may be sorrowful over the REALLY CLOSE Winthrop loss, and the also REALLY CLOSE SDSU loss, and annoyed by the Seton Hall loss, but man, my boys won :)
-> Aelyn glees all over the forum.
When will I learn not to pick against UW-Milwaukee (my alma mater) :mad
Current standings, as of 7:40pm EST
1)Vidare - 17pts
2)Vin - 16pts
3)Aelyn - 16pts
4)Gad - 16pts
5)Ailsing - 0pts
Looks who's in first place, biatch! I'm takin' the rock straight to the hole.
Yeah...you're up by one point in what amounts to five minutes into the first half and you're talking smack? Don't bring that weak ass shit around here, it's gonna get slapped right back in your punk ass face!Quote:

I have come to the conclusion that this is my worst year ever. That said, go TAMU! Go Memphis! Go! Go!
SO glad I didn't enter this year! Kansas totally fucked my bracket up. Oh well... not doing too badly otherwise. My boys did exactly as I thought they would... Bama beat Marquette. And came damn close with UCLA! :) Not too bad an ending to a mediocre season!
Now look who's in first place BIATCH!Quote:

Vin 29 pts
Gadiantor 28 pts
Vidare 28 pts
Aelyn DFL at 26 pts
Yes. I am so fucked.
And we're down to TWO people.
1)Vin -36pts (UConn and UCLA left as his picks, with UConn as the champ)
2)Gadiantor -34pts (UConn and Villanova left, with Villanova as the champ)
3)Aelyn -33pts (no teams left)
4)Vidare -32pts (no teams left)
So, you were taking the rock straight to the hole?Quote:

Wow. What suspense!
And so with the Final Four now set, the only one with a team still left is Vin, with UCLA.
Final standing:
1)Vin
2)Gadiantor
3)Aelyn
4)Vidare
Wow. 4 players. 16 final four picks. Only 1 of them correct.
Dang.
This has been a great tournament.
College football, are you watching?
March Madness rules ALL post seasons/playoffs of all sports.
Basketball is prefer far down on my list of favorite sports to watch, but March Madness is divine.
Dude, even though I got totally fucked, and Vin won... ( and memphis lost :( ) ... this tournament rocks. George Mason all the way! Like I was telling Wrent... I was getting giddy smiles just reading stories about the George Mason game - and man, that game had me on the edge of my seat at the end. Suuuuch a comeback.
There've been a lot of really really close games this tournament, I think. I was at a minor league hockey game on Friday calling my brother to get updates on the UConn/Washington game. Although, the sweetest thing would have been if Albany had held their lead in the first game of the tournament and sent UConn packing then.
I fucking love March Madness. It is by far my favorite bit of sports.
