So do you see now why I was frustrated with Holmgren while he was in GB. He's a good coach, but sometimes he makes the most idiotic decisions.
Most people defend his decision in SB XXXII to let the Broncos score, giving GB more time to work with to make the game winning drive. Logically it sounds good, but that decision CRUSHED morale for the Packers and motivated the Broncos. The look on the Packers bench was one of confusion, while the Broncos defense saw it as a challenge and stepped up. Sure, Portis probably would have scored, but there is always the chance for a bad handoff, snap, or for a defender to make a great play and knock the ball loose. You give your players that chance. You give them the chance to do something heroic (or give the other team to chance to fuck up really bad and become the mockery of all for years to come).
