Federal Judge Strikes Out I.D In Schools

I've tried to avoid getting into this, and will try to keep this brief, but there's one point I'd like to add.

Science, as in the scientific method etc, is all about observation. (Someone else can observe and write a paper, but someone had to actually observe it.) You cannot do scientific study on the past; you CAN, however, study the residue the past has left in the present. For instance (to use a common example), a scientist cannot tell you how long ago a candle was lit; but by inspecting the length currently remaining, and having a reliable record of the original length, and by observing the rate at which the candle burns down, (s)he can come to a fairly logical result. However, the actual extrapolation is not strictly scientific.

Scientific method:
1) Observation
2) Hypothesis
3) Experimentation
4) Theory

You know I really don't know the difference between theory and law. I distinctly recall asking one of my instructors about it and I got an answer that wasn't really an answer. I can't stand when people aren't sure of something so they fluff it with bullshit to come across as not being wrong. It's okay to not know the frickin' answer!

I.D. is being devious, thus it rightly deserves to be attacked.

But a little religion won't kill anyone, especially in public schools where the staff are substituting for parents.

Morality is going to hell, the strict absense of religion does play a factor, imo. Between the witch burning of the inquisition or the degradation of sodom and gamorrah... America's moving from one extreme towards the other. Ya know what'll happen next too!! Oh wait, some of you don't believe that stuff...

I've mentioned before I don't oppose religion. I do think it has an important role in society- but too much of anything is almost always bad.

But morality is disappearing. I'm going out on a limb here, just remember this is my opinion. I'm not a god yet so I'm still susceptible to human error. I think it has to do with materialism. America is obsessed with accumulating worthless crap, wealth, and social status. Corporate America feeds this consumer mentality and we scarf it up with gusto. America is one of the richest nations in the world, but yet all I see are unhappy people everytime I'm out in public or driving. Driving especially. I swear I can almost feel some kind of oozing negative energy every time I'm out and about. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again- the problem with America is that we're no longer citizens- we are consumers.

On second thought this might be because I live in new england. It's like these people live in their own little frigid, private worlds.

Um why do we have to push anything on the kids in school? I don't want anyone pushing a religion on my child. I don't believe religion belongs in the schools. That's why we have churches. If you want to learn it go there.

When I went through high school, I do not believe I -ever- had a class where we were forced to sit down and learn about God. I don't believe anyone is saying it should be forced. But it would be a nice elective class, which is entirely different. Electives are not forced, they're chosen by the students and parents.

I definitely think a class that should be offered in public high schools is World Religion. It's a course that I chose to take in college where you learn the basics of every major religion in the world, including religions that no longer really exist. A lot of people really don't know that religion has affected a lot of our literature, art, and history. Thus, it's important to learn.

I vehemently disagree that any religion should be taught in science course unless you want to take a Science and Moral Issues class, which would be a borderline philosophy class anyway. This would, obviously, encompass way more than just the idea of ID. Stem cell research could be discussed, abortion could be discussed, cloning could be discussed, and its application in various cultures/themes could be discussed. Again, I think ID belongs in Philosophy 101 along with the writings of Darwin and Locke. It DOES NOT belong in a biology class.

American kids can barely hack english and math. I don't think they need I.D. adding to the confusion. As long as they can be good consumers and keep their average wage savings at less than 2% they'll be just fine. And getting in 4+ hours a day of tv couldn't hurt either.
