Athens 2004
Okay, so, this will no doubt change over the next couple of days, and revert to being the exact opposite, so I need to get it in while I can.
Hot Damn we Aussies are kicking some US butt in the gold medal tally!
**Hey, we're a little country, we need to get in while we can!

Hopefully my country's government, Canada will see how the influx of sponsorship and money have translated into success for Australia, and do what should've been done years ago.
We have one friggin' medal...bronze in diving.
Coaches and athletes have been complaining about the lack of support for years.
Hopefully Athens will be a wake up call for us. After all, we are hosting the games again in 6 years.

Well..
My governement (Singapore) has spend millions in Sports for over the last decade. We have achieved... little. We are only good in BodyBuilding, which only recently has been sponsored by the government. And that is not considered a sport at all in the Olympics.
We have 0 medals. Losing to Mongolia. One bronze. Damn...

I watched the men's relay swimming against the Aussies. Man what an exciting event that was. Go USA! Tough challenge and they did it. Aussies are doing very well.
Romania beat the US women in gymnastics. That team just has it going on. I felt so bad for the girl from either China or Japan that fell on her face on the uneven bars. Ouch!
It's been exciting to watch the games this year.

China, and yeah, those bars were the downfall of that team. And yes, the 4x200 freestyle was an amazing race, I was cheering for anyone, even the longshot from Canada (Who was in the lead for like, 5m).

woo Paul Hamm! first US male to win gold in overall in gymnastics! *claps* and i wish the two US women's beach vball teams didnt have to play each other in the semifinals :( that means that Walsh and May are gonna have to knock off McPeak and Youngs so they can take the gold. either way, US should have a dead lock on the gold in that event!
-
Paul Hamm was absolutely amazing.
That might be the single most amazing sports performance I have ever witnessed in my life. What an incredible come back. That guy just refuses to give up. What guts. What determination.
After his disasterous vault (falling into the JUDGE'S TABLE!!!!!!!!!) he absolutely OWNED the parallel bars and high bar.
After his high bar routine I was jumping up and down yelling "Give it to him!" hoping they'd give him enough of a score to win. When he got it, I picked up Dalaena and spun her around. I was soooooooo psyched!
God, I love the Olympics! Even with NBC's crappy coverage.
-
Okay, so, whatever the US basketball team took at 3/4 time against us, I want some of it. Talk about a completely different team playing the last quarter! Was a great game, and I have to say, this would be the least arrogant US Basketball team I've ever seen play, both teams were really good.
Also well done to the USA for hitting the lead in the medal count, you guys are kicking ass! (admiration spiked with jealousy ;))

The Olympics this year just plain rule.
Lore Manaudo will be my girl til the next Olympics. At 17, to be able to get qualified on the semi-final for 100m breast stroke, then win 30 minutes later the 400 freestyle. I hope she wins the 800 freestyle today.
Phelps, that's my man! I hope he wins the 100m butterfly today. That guy just plain rocks, at least for breaking the olympic record TWICE yesterday (on a interval of what? 30 minutes?).
On another sidenote, I've become more and more interested in fencing. Yesterday I was jumping all around during the final between France and Italy (team saber fencing, and by far the most exciting event I've watched so far), and I would've been equally happy for any of them to win; that final was full of action and now I'm fond of fencing in general.
