Well on the subject, meat is meat. Simple as that.
Obviously the morality behind eating a dumb animal and eating a clever animal is far more complicated. because lets face it, people are smart animals (mostly).
I reckon there is no problem eating dog, but I'd rather eat something I am more used to given the choice.

Bad news..... Pigs are smarter than dogs AND cats by far. They also can become incredibly attached to those that raise them (go visit a State Fair if you don't believe me and see the pigs cuddling up with the kids who raised them to be shown at the fair).Quote:

So pigs are smarter than dogs and cats and are at least equally capable of emotional connection. Unfortunately for them, hot dogs and bbq pork are yummy.

Right. Well. I don't eat meat. Okay, I do eat fish, but that's because I can kill a fish. I suppose their species is far enough away from ours that it doesn't bug me. But, I was raised in farm country, had friends who lived on farms, spent a lot of time around farm animals, and, well, I get attached to animals far too easily and could never look a cow in those big brown eyes and off it for something as frivilous as a burger. Of course, if it ever came down to me or the cow, well, then, the cow's gotta go. For this reason, I will take medication in geletin caplets if necessary.
That said, I have zero problems with people who do eat meat if it doesn't bother them to kill the animal. So, as much as I love dogs, my belief extends to this as well. Now, it's very different if someone was going to eat one of _my_ dogs because they'd be killing something I am VERY close to. But, I would like to think no one's going to go eat someone else's pet pig, either!
What does concern me is humane treatment of all animals during the time they are alive. This is one reason I wouldn't go as far as to say humans could be raised for food. We have the (I think!)unique ability to comprehend mortality and understand the future. Thus, for us, being raised as livestock would be mental torture. I really don't think cows realize what's going on until they're actually being slaughtered. But, it is also for this reason that I don't agree with veal-raising practices and the like. The reason I buy free-range chicken eggs. And for this reason, I do disagree with the practice described in the article of hanging the dog 'til it dies.
What really got me about the article was the references to Americans using dogs for sexual pleasure. WTF is up with that!?
If I was an animal activist or something, I probably wouldn't like this reasoning, because, couldn't you then say it would be OK to raise humans for the slaughter as long as they are ignorant about it?Quote:

Absolutely. I don't think cows and chickens need to sleep on velvet pillows, but it definitely isn't necessary to torture them. I personally don't mind if the cost of meat is slightly higher when the treatment is humane.Quote:

As long as the dog was raised for eating I see no problem with it. However, if you're kidnapping peoples pets and eating them... well, that's just a little crazy. I don't know if I'd ever try it and I'm even half korean. I know my Mom and my korean grandparents have eaten dog, but it's not something I'm interested in. But as was said before, meat is meat.
Out of some weird pyschological thing, I would probably throw up if I knew I was eating a dog. At the same time... bring me a big, juicy, sirloin!!
I dont see something morally wrong with eating a dog... just strikes me a gross!
