Yup, it in most of the tabloids in England.
Its absolutley nut's, you have to be mad to have this sort of thing done. It doesnt even look good and will probably go the same way as the phase where people had little bitty gems on your front teeth.........maddness i say.....absolute maddness!!!!!!!!!!

Besides that I have a severe aversion to sticking ANYTHING in my eye, I would never risk messing up my eyes for such a frivolous thing.
I'm another who cannot stand anything in my eyes. I was a complete failure with contacts. That eye jewelry is just plain ridiculous. Along the same lines as the tongue splitting, where folks are getting their tongues surgically separated to look like a serpent's tongue. Ewwww!!!
Isn't it going a bit far these days? What's next....they start amputating body parts?? :eek
Actually...I saw a web site once with extreme body alteration stuff, like really crazy tattooing and piercings, etc. There were a few people on there who had had fingers and things voluntarily amputated. I guess it could have been a hoax but the rest of the site seemed pretty real. *boggle*

It is clear nobody wants to stick anything in one's eye, but does it look good in a girl? I am sure only a few guys would wear high heals, but you like women wearing them and many other things... so if men find the thing sexy then women will do it.

I have to disagree, Enosekel. The amount of women that mutilate themselves with ghastly breast jobs is a testament to the absurd things females will do to appear “attractive”. While certainly most women aren’t like that, enough are to make me rather alarmed. Men have plenty of silly “mating calls” of their own. I think it is safe to say that people in general have very odd notions about what truly attracts others.
Heels are appealing to men because they exaggerate several secondary sex characteristics. They accentuate the calf, add sway to woman’s walk, et cetera. Personally, I think they easily beat the big, dumb, lazy platform shoes which are the current fashion. They’re cheaper than freakish, expensive surgery too.
Perhaps women with fake juggies are just trying to be beautiful for the sake of beauty, or they are vain and trying to keep up with what they believe is the current fashion. What's considered beautiful is always changing, and men don't necessarily decide how "beauty" is defined.
One day the Supermodel is an icon of beauty, the next it's the Kate Mosses of the world. Do men decide this or something else? I don't think it's all up to your average man. Your average man looking for a poster for his wall has to pick from the selection that the store has, and if the store only has Pamela Anderson, well...I guess he has to settle for that.
So I would say marketing and media have more to do with the limited popularity of fake boobs than do men who think they are sexy, and who therefore supposedly make women want to get them, enough to have their flesh carved open and foreign, potentially hazardous objects inserted inside of their bodies. Especially because I regularly hear from (American) men that, while they may very well like big boobs, they prefer natural to fake anyday.
I don't know but one or two women out of all of the hundreds and hundreds of women in the world that I have met who have had boob jobs. Maybe because I'm not out there in California or wherever it is where people (men and women!) just have a lot of plastic surgery and think nothing of it.
Nevertheless this makes me willing to bet that the vast majority of women around the world do not have boob jobs nor are they wishing they could get them in order to better please men.
Furthermore I've heard that American women more than other nationalities are the ones hung up on fake, huge boobies (and fake blonde, fake tans, and fake everything else) so I think that maybe it is more of an American cultural thing than a woman thing.
And another thing: Maybe if you are on Baywatch or in the porn industry you're more likely to have fake boobs, but that's all part of the job.
In the places where fake boobs exist, this is the modern age where women are encouraged to think and act freely, not the olden days where women were compelled by society to corset themselves or bind their feet. Nowadays body alteration does not say anything about a person except perhaps that they are vain, and not necessarily even that. Maybe they just want to express themselves. Maybe they like how it looks.
Men dye their hair, wear toupees/get hair plugs, get tattoos and piercings, they shave, try to do things to prevent body odor (usually...) etc. just as women do. The same argument could be made about them, that everything they do or do not do for their bodies is only because they are just doing it to attract mates. I don't believe that's necessarily the case, though I am sure it's possible that a good number of men may do these things just to find a partner. I think it is more self-expression and something they do because they care about themselves or because they want to feel more self-confident.
Speaking personally, I would still take care of my appearance regardless of the existence of men. It's not about impressing men, it's about what I want for myself.
Whether you choose to believe it or not, women (at least the women -I- know) alter their bodies for many reasons, the biggest reason I think is to feel better about the way they look and feel, not because men want them to. Makeup for example. If women wear it to please men, why do they do it, when so many men say they hate kissing/tasting makeup especially when it comes off on them? And heels. I wear them at work because of the dress code, and when I wear them off work it's because I like to. Not because I'm hoping to make some slobbery heels man happy, that's for sure.

Yes..i admit. I love looking at people's feet And noses as well. Back to the issue! Perhaps it might be appealing to other people, but certainly not me. I dread the thought of putting things in my eye. Safety comes first. We've heard of ear infections after piercin and all. Ears arent that important =p. But the eye! Now that's something you dont wanna play with.
The idea that ‘beauty changes all the time’ is absurd. People get that impression since pop culture icons cycle through the mass media frequently, sometimes in a matter of months. The trouble is, pop culture has little to do with real life. There are universal traits of beauty which transcend time and culture. A supple body, symmetrical features, clear skin, bright eyes, glossy hair, good teeth, and high energy levels are considered attractive everywhere. In a word, health is beautiful. Everything else is perennial at best.
Yes, I agree that men also do silly things in a misguided attempt to be more appealing. Flaunting the symbols of power, wealth and status is more common amongst men than drastic appearance modifications. It's just as ridiculous, though.
Men who hate makeup? It depends. Someone who is wearing enough makeup to actually soil my clothes or smear all over my face would probably look like a circus clown. Makeup is supposed to accentuate a woman’s features, not warp them. It is definitely a ‘less is more’ type of thing in my humble opinion. The same goes for perfume, jewelry, and a host of other trinkets used to enhance appearance. Of course, this is a matter of personal taste and wildly off topic.
On a closing note, I agree that the breast job is definitely an American phenomenon. It is common in Southern California, particularly with the vulgar new money crowd. They are so insecure of their new found status, they have to flaunt their wealth ostentatiously with SUVs, breast jobs, and shoddy designer clothing. As the old saying goes, money can’t buy class….
Why do people get jewelry or otherwise alter their appearance? Enosekel, you said for the most part women alter their appearance to feel better about themselves, and not to attract mates. However, I doubt anyone would feel bad about their appearance if they had nobody to compare themselves to. We do it because we are concerned about how others perceive us and we know appearance is a very large determinant. If you are looking for positive attention from someone I dare say you are going to be concerned about how they perceive you or if they notice you, and likely enough to act on it.

I love how the chick writing the article compared the setup for her surgery to the scene from A Clockwork Orange, as if it was cute or something. The eyelid piercing stuff did look even more screwy though. I guess it's pretty expensive and risky to be cool and unique these days :P.

I heard of this procedure back when it first came out, though I'd never read a detailed account of the procedure...and I shouldn't have. I squirmed through most of it, and once they started showing the pictures and talking about incisions, I kept telling myself, "Just stop now. You get the idea." I finished it though.
I'm really really touchy about my eyes. I've had to have stuff done to my eyelids before and that was rough enough. I have a phobia of needles and sharp things poking holes in my body, but I think I'd sooner get a tongue piercing than incisions, liquid injections, and object insertions in my eye.
