MARCH MADNESS Threshold Pool (Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament)

By popular demand, the first Threshold RPG March Madness Pool is making its debut! Thanks go to Isaviel for finding a site that hosts "office pools" to make management simple and to Serith for running the Super Bowl pool that got this trend started.

The cost to enter the pool is $10.

The prizes are as follows:

1st Place: 60% of the total pool
2nd Place: 30% of the total pool
3rd Place: 10% of the total pool

All prizes are in registration credit. Prizes do not count towards the monthly item lotto.

Before signing up, you need to make a registration payment by credit card or by online check for $10.

After looking at some online pools and discussing this with some interested sports fans on Threshold, I decided to go with the "Variation" scoring method:

• Round 1 = 2 points for every correct pick
• Round 2 = 4 points for every correct pick
• Round 3 = 6 points for every correct pick
• Round 4 = 10 points for every correct pick
• Round 5 = 15 points for every correct pick
• Round 6 = 20 points for every correct pick

Enter your character name, enter the POOL PASSWORD (this will be mudmailed and emailed to you after you make your $10 sign up), then choose a password for yourself.

You will then be able to make your picks one round at a time.

I'm so in the football pool next year! But for now I just must beat Lia's ass in basketball :D

The deadline is 9am tomorrow at the site so make sure you get signed up QUICKLY and then fill out your form!

10 people entered the first Threshold March Madness pool. Unfortunately we got rushed and didn't get it set up and announced until about 4 days before things began. Hopefully next year now that we know how to do it we can get it set up 2 weeks or so in advance.

10 people means the total pool was $100. The prizes were announced as:

1st Place: 60% of the total pool or $60
2nd Place: 30% of the total pool or $30
3rd Place: 10% of the total pool or $10

Since we only had 10 people and I hate for someone who "won" to not actually make a profit, I've decided to kick in $50 of my own money to supplement the winners.

1st Place: $80 registration credit
2nd Place: $40 registration credit
3rd Place: $20 registration credit
Booby Prize: $10 registration credit

This year's winners:

1st Place: Isaviel, with 147 points.
2nd Place: Xenoroyal, with 139 points.
3rd Place: Aelyn, with 130 points.
Booby Prize: Liathano, with a pathetic 84 point total (even Foo who was only signed up to test the software managed 114 points).

Congratulations to everyone who won and thank you to everyone who participated. This pool definitely made March Madness even more fun than ever to watch!

I didnt even think I had a shot of winning anything, when Gonzaga got knocked out. I wasnt even going to pick UConn to win it all either, but then I changed my mind at the end. WOO!

Thanks a bunch Ari! That was really nice of you to add the extra bonus. I was just saying to Xeno last week that I would laugh if I won seeing I was just about in last place the whole way through.

Hopefully next year we can get at least 20 people and then the winning prizes will be quite nice all on their own. :) I wanted to make sure everyone got a nice prize.

It certainly improved my enjoyment of March Madness just watching all you guys compete, cacjole, and rant on the sports channel.

I really think it is cool that we are doing stuff like this now. It started with the Fantasy Football League, then in 2003 I did the Super Bowl betting, then this past year Serith did a big Super Bowl betting chart, and now our first March Madness.

I think these things are a lot of fun and really help bring us all closer together as a community.

I'm bumping this thread so people can start thinking about it, March is just around the corner!

I just heard back from the guy that did the pool hosting last year and he said he will be doing it again this year and always. I wrote him back and asked for a link for the 2005 pool and I will post it as soon as I get that info.

Okay, I heard back from him. They have not put up the 2005 list yet but they will be and asked that we keep them bookmarked.

So we're good to use the site we did last year when it gets back up and running with the 2005 bracket.
